Andrew Borrok

Andrew Borrok, a successful investor and attorney, is known for his ability to think outside the box as well as his philanthropic efforts. His original thinking has enabled him to close some very complicated transactions and manage sizeable business risks seamlessly.

Throughout his career, Andrew Borrok has made many daring decisions that have contributed to his success. One of his boldest moves was the acquisition of the bulk of the equity in 14 Penn Plaza in 2003. He acquired this approximately 550,000-square-foot office building on 34th Street in Manhattan, with court approval, as a buy-out of nearly 90 partners. Andrew Borrok successfully refinanced the property; made significant and necessary improvements; increased the building’s occupancy to 98 percent – all leading to the building’s sale at a $250 million profit.

Another important component of Andrew Borrok’s career has been his role as General Partner and General Counsel for the partnership that holds the tenant’s interest under the ground lease for 425 Park Avenue, an approximately 600,000-square-foot, 31 story office building in Manhattan. Following a significant electrical fire that destroyed the bus duct system in 2004, Mr. Borrok, working with the partnership’s project manager, engaged contractors to restore power on a temporary basis and get the tenants back in their spaces in the building within two weeks. He has worked with the project manager in overseeing the design of the permanent restoration of power which is currently being installed. When 425 Park Avenue Company was faced with an $85 million asbestos lawsuit, Andrew Borrok negotiated a settlement that included dismissal of the lawsuit with prejudice and a release of the partnership and all of the partners – all without the payment of any damages.

Mr. Borrok has also worked for several leading international firms such as Arent Fox LLP, Proskauer Rose LLP and Bear Stearns. These experiences afforded him the chance to play a leading role in major financial restructurings, bankruptcies and numerous multi-million dollar real estate transactions. Among these was the repayment negotiations for the unsecured creditors committee in the Clift Hotel bankruptcy while serving as Of Counsel at Arent Fox.

Andrew firmly believes that it is his responsibility to give back to the community through philanthropic and charitable works. A member of the Board of Directors for Citymeals-on-Wheels – a nonprofit organization that raises private funds to prepare and deliver weekend, holiday and emergency meals to the frail homebound elderly throughout the boroughs of New York City – he is also a major donor. His active volunteer work in the program’s weekend meal program allows him to see, first-hand, the important lifeline that Citymeals provides. A supporter of the Mt. Sinai Hospital, some of his other efforts include being a “pet partner” for the Delta Society, an organization that uses service animals to improve the mental and physical health of patients. Previously, he was on the Board of Directors at the 34th Street Partnership, and a volunteer Assistant District Attorney in the Brooklyn DA’s Office.

Andrew Borrok earned a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College, where he won the James Christopher Caraley Memorial Prize. Following his undergraduate years at Columbia, Mr. Borrok received a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he won a CALI Excellence for the Future Award. He also earned an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Mr. Borrok has taken classes at the French Culinary Institute in New York City and studied privately with Pascal Berec and other renowned chefs. He has a well-deserved reputation as an experienced and accomplished chef.
